National Seed Bank Established
The Network has announced the establishment of a national seed bank for NZ threatened plants at its annual conferences in Auckland on Monday 20th November 2006. The seed bank project has been sponsored by MWH-NZ Ltd, a consultancy company involved in a wide range of engineering and environmental projects (see Sponsors section of website). The seed bank was launched at the Auckland Regional Botanical Gardens by Zoe Burkitt (of MWH) and the Right Honourable Chris Carter (Minister of Conservation). The seed bank will be incorporated into the Margot Forde Germplasm Centre in Palmerston North and will be managed by Ag Research NZ.
