Ewen Cameron, botany curator at Auckland Museum, was this week awarded the Loder Cup by the Department of Conservation at a ceremony in Auckland. This was awarded for his outstanding contribution to botany and conservation.

The indigenous Nephrolepis associated in the North Island of New Zealand with active geothermal fields, has for many years been referred to N. cordifolia (L.) C.Presl, either as that species or an unnamed form of it. In a recent publication an old name, provided for the geothermal Nephrolepis by the pioneering botanist Rev. William Colenso in 1888 has been reinstated.
