  1. This years conference will be the Cheeseman Symposium 2006 – to celebrate the centenary of the publication of the first full flora treatment by a resident New Zealand botanist, Thomas F. Cheeseman’s Manual of the New Zealand Flora (1906). This will take place from Monday 20th –Wednesday 22nd November 2006 at the University of Auckland.
  2. Craspedia (Asteraceae) are regarded as one of New Zealands most "difficult" genera. Many unnamed entities have been proposed. Most of these are regarded as seriously threatened. As part of their biosystematic research programme Landcare Research botanists have been carefully revising the genus. The senior leader of this revision Dr Ilse Breitwieser provides an update on progress made toward a full monograph of this difficult genus....

  4. A field trip to the Arohaki Lagoon, Whirinaki Forest by members of the Rotorua Botanical Society has discovered a large population of the “Acutely Threatened/Nationally Endangered” water brome (Amphibromus fluitans). This is the second find in the Bay of Plenty Region, and also one of the largest known for this species in the country…..
  5. A successful pilot for a marae-based plant training course was held by the Network in mid February in Northland. The course was developed by the New Zealand Plant Conservation Network and funded by the Biodiversity Condition and Advice Fund. This pilot course was hosted by Ngati Hine.
