  1. Hoheria populnea

  2. I Live in Dublin Ireland and have a Hoheria which is 36 years old. It has grown to a height of 45 to 50 feet and flowers in August. This area has underground springs in certain areas and is 1/2 mile from the sea. Is it unusual for it to have grown so tall and how long can I expect it to live? Many plants grow from deposited seeds.

  3. Hi Janetta, an impressive specimen! In NEw Zealand that is about as large as the species gets. Unfortunately they are a short-lived species that grows quickly in disturbed forest areas of NZ and their lifespan is probably only up to about 100 years of age. They are also very susceptible to trunk rot and root rot as they age and consequently become more susceptible to being blown over as they become older. I hope your one is not too close to a fence or house?
