    would this grow trained on a trellis in sheltered sunny spot in Nelson nz. flowering time, and frost hardy?

    Yes - I used to grow it in that way and also I trained it to grow on wires up brick walls - this also helps it to thrive in cold areas, though I have seen this species flourishing in gardens in Te Anau where plants were covered in snow
