  1. Cardamine?

  2. Does anyone recognize this plant, and is it a Cardamine? The leaves are somewhat similar to C. corymbosa in shape, and are mostly bilobed at the base, but they are very small, thick and fleshy as opposed to thin and delicate, also have red margin. Plants were very low on the ground, growing among moss and other matt-forming alpine plants.
Location was Young Range, Otago, approx 1700m of elevation, last week.

  3. Hi Danilo

There is a Cardamine bilobata so have a look and see how it matches.

    Cheers

  4. Hi Danilo, there are a range of Cardamine growing in Otago, most are currently in the C. corymbosa species aggregate (which yours is). Given your habitat and photo I would call it "Otago scree". Id so, the siliques will be distinctly pubescent and with a distinct dark marginal line. C. bilobata and aff. bilobata are very different and always(?) found growing in crevices of rocks

  5. Thanks Mike!

Here's what Peter Heenan wrote in reply to my inquiry:

"The species is part of the C. corymbosa complex as you suggest. Your right that the leaves of plants such as the one you've photographed are thicker than lowland forms, and although I can distinguish a number of distinct species in the corymbosa complex there is still quite a bit of variation that I cant resolve and this includes alpine forms such as the one you've photographed".
