Sorry was in a bit of a rush last night. What I meant to say, was "compare it to this picture of a Clematis infected with the rust fungus Aecidium otagense. Notes from Eric McKenzie (Eric Mckenzie <MckenzieE@landcareresearch.co.nz> "clematis rust- although it is widespread throughout New Zealand it appears to be more common in the south. Molecular work has suggested that it is probably part of the life cycle of Puccinia tiritea, a rust that occurs on Muehlenbeckia species. If at all possible I would like to get a sample of the rust as it would be useful to get another sequence from the aecial (Aecidium) stage of the life cycle.
