Continuing on a theme, this Pimelea was growing at the base of south-facing cliffs at Shag Point, North Otago. It would be interesting to hear any opinions on it, as it was a little unusual. It has sprawling stems that were about 800mm long and a habit similar to P. actea, which it obviously isn't (although it could just be a shade growth form of something that is normally very compact - P. carnosa has been suggested to me by someone with very good knowledge of plants of this area).
I have just remembered that tonight is the memorial service for John. He is undoubtedly in the thoughts of some who couldn't make it down, like me. He really was exceptional, and a great person to be around.
