  2. I got this plant years ago but have always had my suspicions that it is not this species.I have taken some photos hopefully they are good enough.I was thinking Luzula but im not sure.

  3. Another shot

  4. Growing in my garden

  5. Hi John - its a Carex - one of the exotic ones I think - but I can't say for sure which one on the basis of the images you have posted. Other people might like to try

  6. I think Peter is right an exotic Carex - possibly C. ovalis

  7. Cheers,i always knew it wasn't what I got it as

  8. Did you actually purchase this as Uncinia fuscovaginata? If so this raises a pet issue of mine, i.e., nurseries selling mislabeled plants. I recognise that nobody is perfect, and some nurseries get it wrong by accident but I also recognise that some nurseries will continue to sell incorrectly labelled material - even after it has been established that this is the case. I am sure that there must be consumer laws governing such an action. If for example you buy an orange tree and it turns out to be lemon, well that's annoying (and it happens), but what about nurseries selling Juncus pallidus (when they are actually knowingly selling J. effusus) or Australian Leptospermum as L. scoparium. I once tried (1994) to get Consumer to investigate this but they thought it wasn't an issue. Sorry got off track here from your original query...

  9. I actually got this from Percy Scenic Reserve labelled as Uncinia fuscovaginata. We had quite a few there and this was one of the more scruffier ones so I thought id plant it at home,i have other Uncinia species at home(gracilenta and uncinata)so you'd think I would have registered this...oh well.

  10. Good to know - sadly at Percy's between various curators some weeds got into the Druce collection. Perhaps this is what happened. I had similar over a new species of plant in the Druce collection that I was excited about getting, grow it on to count its chromosomes and found it was a weed. It happens....

  11. It does happen. I saw the red form of U. uncinata labelled as U. rubra at the Edinburgh Botanical Gardens. Quite few N.Z. plant nurseries used to have it as well
