    What is the name for this hebe? I believe it is also found on Kapiti Island

  4. Hi John - the plants at Rocky Bay (just north of Titahi Bay) were formerly known as Hebe elliptica var. crassifolia (this site was the type locality in fact - see Allan (1961) Fl. N.z. Vol. I). This variety is also present on Kapiti Island, and is sometimes regarded as being present along the South Taranaki Coast. Hebe elliptica var. crassifolia was subsequently treated as part of the natural variation within H. elliptica by Bayly & kellow (2006 - the Hebe monograph - published by Te Papa Press)
