Hi, can someone please help id this tree. The bark isnt flakey and red as I would expect from Kawaka but the cones seem distinctive.

Possibly - can you please post an image of the bark and one of the whole tree. Was this planted?

Attached is a picture of the full tree, light isnt great. It is a planted tree at Waikanae Park. I dont have a photo of the bark but I did look at it and would have noticed (I believe) if it looked like the typical bark of a Kawaka which is the flakiest bark I can think of and almost red.

I had a look at a Libocedrus Plumosa at Otari and it looks very different to me. Not just the leaves which look more pointed but also the sprays aren't as flat. Is it some type of Chamaecyparis ?

A helpful specialist on conifers identified it as a Chinese arborvitae. Not one I would have picked as the sprays are less upright than on the C. Arborvitae I have seen and I didnt notice any of the distinctive blue, spikey open cones. The attached stock photo from the web shows an open cone which looks right. thanks for your help !
