This little plant was growing on a wet bank at a farm/beech junction on the E side of the Ruahine Ra. I thought it might be Caltha but It seems not.
Looks like a Nertera Mike
Thanks Graema. Nertera ciliata seems to match best from the pix available, tho I'm a bit confused about the range. Two books state that it's a SI plant, but one is illustrated with a plant from Taranaki/Egmont!
Nertera ciliata has a distribution from Mt Pirongia south according to nzpcn!
I will post a picture of Nertera depressa in flower for comparison. The hairy-leaved thing is Lagenifera
Thanks David, I've not seen that one yet.
Hi The "hairy leaved thing" look more like Leptostigma setulosa. Cheers
I can't confirm Pat's comment about the Lagenophora (note spelling). But David your Nertera depressa has sparsely to distinctly hairy leaves and so fits Nertera ciliata better and this species may or may not have hairy leaf margins. As an aside I tell these two species apart by smell. Nertera depressa foliage when crushed smells like Coprosma foetidissima and N. ciliata has no obvious smell. I also found N. ciliata on Mt Pirongia and late last year on Mt Tarawera. It's locally common in the North Island from the TVZ south.
Good tip Peter, I've added it to the species fact sheets.
I found N. depressa at Bellbird Bush near Boundary Stream Reserve in Hawkes Bay yesterday and the smell test worked a treat.
