  1. Is this a Native grass?

    I am fairly new to NZ and working on a rural block in Central Otago that has a small drainage line running through some cleared open grassland. There are some invasives along the creek that we are removing.

    The grassland is covered in an upright prickly stemmed grass(?)/herbaceous plant with drooping flowers/seed pods coming off the stem in a staggered arrangement. Does anyone know if this is native and if so, what it is?

    These are the seedheads of the the introduced vipers bugloss, a common herbaceous weed of drylands. See http://www.nzpcn.org.nz/flora_details.aspx?ID=3851
