    This thing popped up on the edge of the garden (Grey Lynn, Auckland). Having a rather Metrociderine look to it I thought I'd leave it and see what it grew into. Perhaps one of you may be able to help? Square form stems, four angled. Probably a weed but it would be nice to know. Thanks in advance.

    Ha. So shiny, smooth and un-leathery. So, I went outside and checked some sprouting branchlets on a mature tree and almost all were hairy and leathery like this.. BUT

    BUT.. I did find a couple that kinda matched from the same tree, like this one... so can anybody explain what's going on here?
