  1. Podocarpus nivalis

  2. Hi
I bought a plant called Podocarpus nivalis bronze in Christchurch. Is it a hybrid of the podocarpus nivalis that I have seen in the Ahuriri River area near Omarama. On the plant info it says it grows to a height of 40cm, span to 1m (several years). This appears to be far smaller than the plants seen in the Ahuriri.
    Cheers Steve

  3. I can't answer your first question but 'bronze' suggests it's a cultivated variety which might also suggest a hybrid origin.
As for size, nursery practice is to show the size in 6 -10 years. Also your plant will be grown from a cutting and is likely to have the growth habit and low vigour of an adult plant (physiological age). On the plus side it will be reproductive much quicker.
