  1. The difference between Brachyglottis and Senecio?

  2. Probably a stupid question but what is the difference between something being a Senecio and a Brachyglottis? I mainly ask this because I recently found a flowering Senecio glaucophyllus ssp. glaucophyllus (which I at first thought was a Brachyglottis species) and it got me wondering. Some of the Brachyglottis I've seen seem more different from the norm (like Brachyglottis traversii and brachyglottis sciadophila) than the Senecio glaucophyllus does?

  3. The involucral bracts are in a single row of equal length around the flower in Brachyglottis, but there are smaller bracts present (supplementary bracts) towards the base of the flower in Senecio. There are probably other differences such as stigmatic surfaces, but that's the feature I mainly use. Bract = linear scale that remains as a spread-out star on the old flowers once the seed has been shed.
