  2. Is Dicksonia squarrosa what we commonly call a Ponga?

  3. No - 'Ponga' is mostly used a generic name for all tree ferns - though it is often now used for silver fern (Cyathea dealbata) - it is, at least as far as I know not exclusive to that species. Dicksonia squarrosa is mostly known by the name 'wheki' and its close relative D. fiborsa 'wheki ponga'.

  4. but D. squarrosa is the species most commonly cut for the ponga trunk trade
