Hi Mike - the difference are outlined in the Fact Sheets under M. aff. insulare and M. laetum. The most simple way is to look at the leaf buds - if brown to dark brown and sticky then you have M. laetum if green to yellow green then M. aff. insulare. The leaf glands (spots) are also diagnostic - extremely obvious in M. laetum scarcely so in M. aff. insulare. The stems of M. laetum are covered in warty protuberances, those of M. aff insulare are smooth. But watch out these two hybridize.
