  1. ID of invasive bamboo

  2. This plant has has covered a coastal hill on the edge of Port Taranaki. It the hill that the Ocean View Parade runs along side.

  3. For bamboo identification you need to show:

    1. The basal bracts (where the culm emerges from the soil)
    2. Note whether it is rhizomatous or not
    3. Show the 'cane' - taking care to depict if it has a groove, if it is entire, and also what the cane looks like where it braches
    4. The fully expanded leaves
    5. Note the height

    From this image I cannot work out what bamboo this.

  4. Hi Peter.
    More info on that bambbo. There is no grove at all, Height about 5 m but the tops are heavy and they droop. It must be a running species, new one are spouting on the outside of the main area. Have attached a few more photos. Its a shame one one photo per posting. It makes it hard for you to identify with only one photo.
