  1. Weed ID

  2. Can anyone identify this plant? It's not listed on Weedbusters. It's semi invasive, growing on a coastal property in the Rodney area (Algies Bay). Also any ideas on the best herbicide to use for removal.

  4. The flower looks hibiscus like

  5. Is it this one http://www.nzpcn.org.nz/flora_details.aspx?ID=2399. Abutilon darwinii, Chinese lantern

  6. Yeah the flower is very hibiscus like, although I've never noticed it opened up. I don't think it's an abutilon. My mum has those in the garden and they're slightly different in leaf and flower shape. These flowers are upright, never drooping. The shrub itself seems to layer and spread.

  7. Just googled hibiscus like plants and found Malvaviscus arboreus which looks like it.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction Astrid - part of the hibiscus family.

  8. Sorry I missed this - but I see you have got it correctly identified as Malvaviscus arboreus. Its locally abundant in Auckland - see http://naturewatch.org.nz/observations/2869480 as an example.

  9. Yes it's an Abutilon.
