  1. Pomaderris apetala subsp. maritima?

  2. Small group of trees considered roango by the local Kia Ora health group. Would just like to confirm what it is - four photos, and two larger photocopied pictures.

  3. Upper side of foliage

  4. underside of foliage

  5. form of tree/tall shrub

  6. Upper surface view - scanned in at 2x actual size

  7. Underside view scanned in at 2x actual size

  8. Not 100% but these plants look more like P. aspera - the leaves are more narrow than usual for that species but the flowers loom more like it than they do those of P. apetala subsp. maritima which are much darker golden yellow to almost orange yellow. Pomaderris aspera is often grown here and sold as P. apetala - as such you often find it in plantings etc. It is supposedly naturalised in parts of New Zealand though I have never seen seedlings.

    For Pomaderris aspera see http://naturewatch.org.nz/observations/4695521

    Worth checking out further

  9. Nope I will recant that - this is Pomaderris apetala subsp. maritima - checked my own book nonetheless! Therein I sumamrise the differences between the two - you plant has congested panicles, and in the dried material they are more golden yellow, and the veins on the leaf undersides are covered in tomentum.

  10. Thank heaps Peter:-)
