  1. Is this a Weinmannia racemosa ?

  2. I don't see this often so am not sure

  3. Hi Rhys - that is a Hoheria - most probably H. populnea

  4. I see h. Populnea a lot and it didn't occur to me that was it. I associate the leaves as being thinner, marbled and reddish underneath

  5. Which males me wonder if what i thought was H. Populnea is H Populnea. BTW while we are on thee subject og hoheria. Is this H. sexstylosa ?

  6. Your last posting is H. sexstylosa. The reddish colouration in H, populnea is not diagnostic - it often just means the plant is stressed for some reason so defending itself by producing anthocyanins (a reddish-pigment that plants make to stop being browsed, sun burned etc)

  7. Thanks Peter, its great being able to clarify these points as the books only take me so far.

  8. Is it usual for there to be variation in the base of the h populnea like this ? I had thought they were all level like the leaf on the left.

  9. Depends - Hoheria populnea is very variable and where there is H. sexstylosa present they form hybrids.

  10. Ahhh, riddle solved.
