Wondering will the M.perforata easily climb a cable trellis and roughly what sort of depth and width of soil is required to sustain this as a healthy climber?

Yes. This species prefers a well drained, humus enriched soil. Don't let it dry out, Plant it in a place where its roots are shaded and it is otherwise growing in the full sun. It will require a reasonable root run to flourish. When it is young it is frost sensitive but once it has adult foliage it is reasonably frost hardy.
