  1. Grass in Kawarau Gorge, Otago

  2. Can anyone inform me of the identity of this grass ? (which was growing on Chard Rd, by the Pimelea aridula). I assumed to be native, but may well be wrong. It was quite attractive in bloom, and had a slightly glaucous hue to the foliage. I have a closer photo of the flowers, but it looked readily identifiable on the basis of this image.

  3. Do you have any close ups Philip of the leaf-sheath, ligule, spikelets etc?

  4. Thanks Peter,
I knew I should have taken a few more images. This is the closest I took of it. I can't find anything that matches it on the website.

  5. And here's another photo of the context, not that it makes a difference. Perhaps Mike Thorsen has been creeping around that part of the world to look at the Pimelea aridula and Carmichaelia compacta, and knows it on the basis of the location and general appearance. Any thoughts, Mike ? Do I have a nice set of photos of a weed ?

  6. Hi Philip, that one is not jogging my memory of any species. Likely exotic, but don't know what species. I haven't looked in the Chard Road site for over ten years.

  7. Thanks Mike, that's enough for me. I was interested in whether it is a native of Otago or not.
