  1. Daucus glochidiatus in East Coast remnant ?

  2. I saw this Daucus growing beneath an open canopy of kanuka on a ridgeline in Waimahuru last week. This patch (around 1m square) was the only carrot-like plant that we saw within the vicinity and was well away from the margins of the forest. Due to this growing station and the small stature, I wondered whether it is Daucus glochidiatus. It would be interesting to get an opinion from someone more familiar with D. glochidiatus in the wild.

  3. Hi Philip - there are lots of Apiaceae in that area that can look like Daucus when not flowering. I used to cultivate some of them, just in case, but usually were Anthriscus or a Torilis. Without flowers/fruits its very difficult to say whether it is Daucus, but someone who is very familiar with the species may know a leaf character that could be used.

  4. Thanks Mike, that's enough of an answer for me, and confirms what I thought. Fruits and flowers are the best way to determine whether it's D. glochidiatus.

  5. Hookay - see my comment on your other posting. LOL at least we all agree then
