  2. Is this obovatus? I haven't seen one with the notch in the leaf

  3. Yes this is the unnamed species lurking within Melicytus obovatus. It differs from M. obovatus in the strict sense by its growth habit and perfect flowers (i.e. single plants set fruit). This entity is found on either side of the Cook Strait in coastal areas. It is no longer very common in the North Island. I surveyed for it when I lived in Wellington - the main mainland site for it there is north of Titahi Bay.

  4. Actually Robyn Smith thinks that the population on the cliffs just south of Titahi Bay may be the largest in Wellington. It might stay that way too if we can discourage the goats!
