  2. Hi, so I came across this tree while on Ponui island last week and I have no idea what it is.

Any help with identification is much appreciated.

  7. Hi Hirere - could it be willow-leaved maire, maire taike, Mida salicifolia

  8. Maire Taike (Mida salicifolia) - nice images. This is one of our few truly endemic genera left. Its closest relative is a tiny shrub Nanodea found on the Falklands and Tierra del Fuego - together they belong in the Nanodeaceae. Mida is a hemisparasite - meaning it takes some nutrients from its host but can make its own food. Typical hosts are tanekaha, rimu, kauri, totara, but also mangeo, tawa etc

  9. Thank you Astrid, thank you Peter!

    Much appreciated.
